Water Quality Parameters

Tryptophan

What is Tryptophan in Water?

While tryptophan is found in turkey and other protein-rich foods, this amino acid can do much more than inspire a nap. In aquatic research scenarios, tryptophan can act as a valuable parameter of measurement thanks to its fluorescent qualities, serving as an indication of human influence on water quality.

Why Measure Tryptophan in Water?

Tryptophan monitoring is commonly used as an indication of waste from sewage runoff. Tryptophan-like fluorescence (TLF) makes its real-time detection a possibility. TLF peaks are often associated with sewage and farm waste as they are breaking down.
