The Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO) held its 2019 meeting, Planet Water Challenges and Successes, from February 23rd to March 2nd in San Juan, Puerto Rico. PME’s Teddy Lucena was in attendance, as were PME’s miniDOT® Loggers and other innovative products from field-leading manufacturers.
A Conference with a Cause
San Juan, still recovering from Hurricane Maria, the region’s worst natural disaster on record and the 10th most intense Atlantic Hurricane on record, was an aptly chosen site for the conference, which focused on the role of science at the center of all economic, societal and environmental recovery.
Many attendees participated in recovery and outreach activities, witnessing firsthand the continued struggle for recovery of the island and its people.
ASLO believes the conference will have an effect beyond the immediate help and outreach, providing access to sessions focused on training scientists in public communication skills and teaching basic, effective methodology to a younger generation of researchers.
MiniDOT Loggers Make an Appearance
PME’s miniDOT® Loggers were featured in three presentations. Dr. David Meyer from Leibniz-Institut reported having taken the miniDOT to more than twice its maximum recommended depth of 100 meters.
Lucena enjoyed discussing the miniDOT® Loggers and other PME products with conference attendees. “I met a lot of our customers who have used other devices in the past and are now enjoying the ease-of-use and cost-effectiveness of our products,” he said.
