Fast CT Sensor/ Nortek Velocimeter
The Fast Conductivity and Temperature sensor has been modified to be integrated with a Nortek Velocimeter. PME is able to provide a sensor addition, cable connection, and bracket for the Nortek Velocimeter.
This combined instrument has been used to study turbulent mixing and vertical transport near the sediment in a body of water.
PME's sensor produces two analog signals, one for temperature and one for conductivity. These are routed into the Nortek Vector via an extra connector that can be purchased from Nortek or PME. The Vector receives this analog voltage and, at each time that velocity is measured, converts the two analog voltages then present to digital form. Both the velocity measurements and the C and T from PME are stored together and are synchronized with the Vector data stream.
John Crusius, Peter Berg, Dirk Koopmans and Laura Erban with the U.S. Geological Survey and University of Virginia used this type of system to study turbulent mixing near the sediment-water interface using the eddy correlation approach. View the Abstract.
Note that the Vector 3D current Meter will need to be purchased from Nortek.
