Fast Conductivity and Temperature Sensor

The Fast Conductivity and Temperature Sensor is a combination of PME's Fast Conductivity Sensor and Thermometrics fast response FP07 thermistor. This sensor can be used for investigating turbulent mixing in stratified fluids.

The sensor is shown in the picture at right. It consists of a Thermometrics' FP07 fast temperature sensor (1) mounted alongside a PME fast conductivity sensor (2). The glass conductivity sensor is heated to the softening point and the sensor is bent, as the photo shows, to give 1 mm separation between the conductivity sensor and the thermistor bead. This allows both sensors to sense nearly the same volume of water.

The conductivity sensor must be used in conjunction with suitable electronics such as the MicroScale Conductivity and Temperature Instrument (available at PME). The temperature sensor is a temperature variable resistor and changes due to the heat flux into or out of the sensor.
